1. The Institute

What is the Endorphin Dealer Institute?

Put simply, we are pioneers of distilled endorphin spirits on a mission to find new ways to feel good.

We’re a global lab that’s about smarter socialising. We work across borders to create, distill and legally deal in distilled “endorphin spirits”: endorphin-led alternatives to alcohol.

By using natural ingredients like hemp, nootropics and adaptogens, we uplift the mind, body and spirit. We’re producing a new type of drink for people who want mindful drinking experiences.

In creating our legal ‘feel good’ utopian drinks, we follow four simple rules:

  1. Always no alcohol
  2. Always molecular blended
  3. Always natural
  4. Always ‘feel good’

We push the boundaries of what’s possible by exploring new ingredients, extracting endorphins in new ways and making drinks unlike anything you’ve tried before.

Is it E.D.I. or Edi?

We like to keep things friendly and informal, so prefer just Edi (pronounced as ‘Ed/ee’).The full name is the Endorphin Dealer Institute, but that’s only for the legal team.

Where is the Endorphin Dealer Institute?

Edi’s distilled endorpin spirits are crafted in the UK, but we’re a truly international team. We’ve got people based here in the UK, as well as in South Africa and France. We’ve built a world-class team of drinks industry experts, including a leading master blender and a global team of liquid developers and technical pioneers.

Who is in the Endorphin Dealer Institute?

Formula E championship pioneers Alexander Jakobi and Jean-Eric Vergne are the two founders.

Alexander is a qualified UK lawyer by trade, has been with Formula E since 2013 and represents several Formula E and Formula 1 racing drivers, as well as Hugo Boss as an advisor and ambassador.

World-class French racing driver Jean-Eric boasts a raft of exceptional Formula One and Formula E racing achievements and is also a global brand ambassador for Hugo Boss, Tag Heuer, DS Automobiles and the UK-based Big Cat Sanctuary. Both love being at the forefront of disruptive technology and have a passion for innovation.

Helene Locke, Edi’s General Manager and Founding Partner, brings 15 years of drinks innovation expertise to the Institute following various roles at Diageo. Helene was behind many of the company’s high-profile innovations, including new-to-world Irish whiskey Roe&Co and Baileys Almande to name only some. Based in South Africa, Helene is passionate about disruptive innovation, entrepreneurialism and leveraging the power of innovation to drive new choices for consumers.

Edi’s Technical Director, Anthony Wilson, has led a high-profile career in brand innovation and brings 20 years of experience in creating world-class drinks. Also based in the UK, Anthony has been behind the creation and delivery of brands including Seedlip distilled Spirits portfolio & Aecorn Aperitifs, The Cockspur Rum Portfolio, Baileys Chocolat Luxe, Mary, Malfy gin and variants and Tipplesworth cocktails and mixers.

Niccolò Pradella, Edi’s Sales Manager, brings his drinks expertise gained first working behind the bar and then building independent premium spirits brands. After gaining experience as a bartender and bar manager in cocktail bars, such as Graphic Bar, he helped brands including Copperhead Gin, Electric Bitter, Marcanegra Mezcal, and Inverroche Gin break through the UK market. Passionate about biohacking and performance, he aims to revolutionise the industry approach to drinking.

2. Endorphin Spirits - Products, Ingredients, Effects & Packaging

What are distilled endorphin spirits?

We’ve coined this phrase to describe a range of non-alcoholic distilled spirits that distill and blend natural ‘feel good’ ingredients to deliver an effect you can ‘physically’ feel - what we’re calling the Edi effect.

What is the ‘Edi Effect'?

Each of our distilled endorphin spirits deliver a physical effect in the body, which we’re calling the ‘Edi Effect’. The typical feeling/sensation varies by product (and is different for each person), but is created by the proprietary molecular blend of active functional ingredients in each, such as hemp and nootropics.

The ‘Edi Effect’ is different for each person. While we can’t generalise the effect, a common theme emerging from anecdotal feedback is people experiencing what is best described as a ‘feel-good’ sensation - the sort we can all identify with that gives us an uplifted and relaxed feeling.

It’s that euphoric feeling, or state of being/excitement, we might associate with something as simple as enjoying relaxing social time with family and friends, experience after exercise, through to that ‘Friday night’ feeling, looking forward to a birthday/christmas celebrations or even just an everyday ‘win’ that is enough to make us smile.

How do you make a distilled spirit with hemp?

‘Molecular masterblending’ is the proprietary method we use to distill all of our endorphin spirits, using all-natural ingredients selected and blended at a molecular level.

Our first signature spirit, Spirited Euphoria, applies molecular masterblending to the wonderfully complex hemp plant to craft a drink unlike any other.

Hemp contains over 200 ‘terpene’ flavour molecules. Crafting them together into a delicious spirit takes real artistry. It took us two years of experimentation behind the scenes to create an approach that we believe is the future of distillation – using multiple extraction processes including copper pot distillation, oil fraction distillation and gravity separation to isolate all of the desired terpenes and natural materials for our secret blends.

This enables us to isolate the exact hemp taste molecules we require, and blend them to perfection in different signature flavours - a breakthrough process that we continue to refine every day.

Will Edi’s distilled endorphin spirits give me a hangover?

No, a hangover is related to the effects of alcohol. Since Edi’s distilled endorphin spirits are non-alcoholic - with added functional elements to promote effects/sensations you can physically ‘feel’ - people enjoying them won’t experience a hangover.

What is Seed to Sip?

This is our certification process that allows us to trace our ingredients from our farmers and growers, through the supply chain and all the way to the final bottle being sold to consumers. We have multiple control steps in place to ensure traceability, safety and that all of the necessary certifications are adhered to. This allows customers to trust in our brand.

All of our liquids are tested through CBD analytical specialists who carry out analysis to ensure compliance and safety. There is a recognised standard of testing in the industry and Edi is working closely with respected partners and regulators to ensure that our brands meet the right safety standards.

What are nootropics?

Nootropics are smart, brain and cognitive-enhancing supplements. We only use nootropics that come from natural sources in our distilled endorphin spirits.

What are terpenes?

These are natural flavour and aroma chemicals found in nature. Think of them as the fundamental building blocks of flavour. There are approximately 30,000 natural terpenes and they are derived from natural sources such as hemp, basil and lemon to name only some, which can then be isolated and extracted.

What are adaptogens?

Adaptogens are natural herbs and roots that have relaxed humanity for thousands of years. They are widely used in herbal medicine to help relieve the stresses of life and also to maintain homeostasis (constant physical and chemical state within the body).

What is the difference between CBD isolate and broad / full spectrum CBD?

Broad / full spectrum CBD can contain terpenes, flavonoids and THC as well as other cannabinoids which - like THC are also regulated and restricted within the UK e.g. Cannabinol (CBN) Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol Acid (THC-A) or Tetrahydrocannabivarin (THC-V) for example.

The CBD isolate we use has a purity of greater or equal to 99.5% with some trace elements.

Where does Edi source its CBD and nootropics?

Our CBD is sourced from one of the most reputable suppliers in the industry - TTS Pharma. As part of TTS Pharma's commitment to Quality they have developed & use a ‘Track & Trace’ system called CHOtrak; Their in-line production controls establish and protect provenance throughout their supply chain to ensure that Edi's customers receive the highest quality product, meeting regulatory standards, from Seed to Sip.

Our nootropics come from a variety of certified suppliers and farmers across Europe and Asia.

Are your bottles and packaging sustainable?

Yes; our bottles are sustainable thanks to glass being one of the most recyclable materials in the world.

The packaging we use to safely deliver our endorphin spirits to your door are sourced from companies with industry-leading sustainability credentials.

Plus, our labels come from one of the first suppliers to embrace the British Printing Federation’s “zero to landfill” initiative and the paper used is either FSC or PEFC accredited (two global forest management certification schemes designed to promote sustainable forestry around the world).

You’ve got Spirited Euphoria, will Edi launch other variants in the future?

Yes; Spirited Euphoria is the inaugural release in our planned range of distilled endorphin spirits. We’re working on developing our second edition to the range to be launched in the summer, which will then be followed by third in 2022.

Spirited Euphoria (Product)

1. Product, Effects, Serves & Ingredients

What is Spirited Euphoria?

Spirited Euphoria is a delicious ‘feel good’ non-alcoholic spirit distilled from real hemp. Its molecular blend is crafted from natural, uplifting ingredients - including hemp and ancient adaptogens - helping to take the edge off a busy day and allowing you to unwind without becoming intoxicated.

It contains only 2Kcals per serve, is sugar free, carb free, gluten free and vegan.

How will I feel after drinking Spirited Euphoria?

The functional effect from Edi’s Spirited Euphoria is different for each person, so the best starting point is to understand what’s in it and some of the effects they are recognised for.

Spirited Euphoria includes a blend of CBD, nootropics, adaptogens and terpenes.

CBD is recognised as affecting everyone differently due to subtle differences in our bodies, through to the amount consumed. We can’t therefore generalise the effect of this specific ingredient, as it varies by each person. However CBD in itself is often described as helping people to feel calmer with improved focus, sharper thinking and an overall sense of well-being.

As for nootropics, we use:

  • Vit B5 B6 and B12 - Vitamin B5 to help balance mental performance, Vitamin B6 and B12 to help with the nervous system
  • N-acetyl L-Tyrosine - recognised for helping to create alertness, attention and focus
  • L-carnitine - an amino acid that fuels energy production
  • 5-HTP - to help support production of serotonin, which is involved with the regulation of mood
  • Guarana - often used to improve mental focus

Adaptogens are herbs and roots - like Ginkgo Biloba - used in herbal medicine to help relieve the stresses of life. They have been soothing humanity since they were first picked.

Some of the terpenes we use are recognised for promoting relaxation and stress-relief, while others for promoting focus and alertness.

Together, these ingredients have a synergistic effect. Since the functional effect from Edi’s Spirited Euphoria is different for each person, our best advice is for people to try it for themselves to see how it makes them feel.

How much Spirited Euphoria should I drink to experience the ‘Edi Effect’?

We are all different and our bodies work in different ways, so there is no set rule. However, as a reference point, we recommend a 50mls “double” measure for our signature serve.

If enjoyed most evenings, you build up the blend of CBD, nootropics and adaptogens so it sits at a more constant level in their body - there’s no morning after feeling, and everyone experiences it their own way.

Will I feel different after only one drink of Spirited Euphoria?

Anecdotally, people have told us they feel physically ‘different’ after one signature serve. However, the exact feeling is different for each person and so we’re not able to be prescriptive.

We’re currently conducting a trial, after which we may have some common themes emerge.

Where is Spirited Euphoria made?

We craft Spirited Euphoria in the UK using a specifically tailored production process that allows it to be produced to the very highest standards. Each batch is hand crafted and has full traceability through the global supply chain.

Will Spirited Euphoria have a psychoactive effect?

No; this is not possible without THC and we are certified THC-free*.

*Each bottle contains no more than the legal limit of 1mg of THC.

Why does Spirited Euphoria cost around the same as an alcoholic spirit?

We’ve all become so used to paying a certain amount for drinks with, or without alcohol, and so we ‘get’ it needs a bit of explaining.

Unlike other non-alcoholic drinks, Spirited Euphoria delivers an ‘effect’ you can physically ‘feel’ (which we call the Edi effect) - in the same way we’ve come to expect from alcohol, but without the downsides. This is one of the factors we’ve become ‘used’ and ‘willing’ to pay at a certain point for.

Combined with the physical ‘effect’ you will feel after drinking Spirited Euphoria, premium prices for luxury hand-crafted products such as ours are justified when you consider the skill and time intensive techniques that go into creating them, alongside the high-quality and expensive ingredients used.

A lot goes into creating a non-alcoholic spirit that tastes this good. We’ve gone to great lengths to lead our bespoke blend with natural hemp terpenes (flavours). This involves using a range of different distillation processes, alongside pioneering new technologies, to extract natural hemp terpenes from different parts of the plant to create a signature depth and range of flavours. This physical breaking apart/separation of flavours is a pioneering step-change in the creation of a new drinks category and is producing an entirely new palette of interesting flavours.

We’ve also spent considerable time looking at different types of hemp and cannabis strains, undertaken vast amounts of exploratory scientific work into what part of the hemp plant is most appealing from a taste perspective and worked with renowned and industry-leading experts. These include gold standard cannabinoid labs in the UK, leading nootropics farmers in Europe and the Far East, and an expert Chinese herbalist to refine our carefully-selected choice of nootropics (some of which have never been used in drinks before) and adaptogens.

Plus, we also use CBD isolate - the purest and highest-quality available - from the reputable TTS Pharma.

Spirited Euphoria contains CBD - is this ingredient safe?

Yes; Cannabidiol (CBD) is an active ingredient of Cannabis that’s legal, safe and not psychoactive. We use 420mg of CBD Isolate per 70cl bottle, its purest, most natural form.

How much CBD is in a Spirited Euphoria serve?

Each 25mls serve of Spirited Euphoria contains 12mg of CBD.

What is CBD isolate, how is it different from cannabis? Why does Edi use CBD isolate?

CBD isolate is greater or equal to 99.5% pure, which means it contains only CBD, with all other cannabinoids removed. This is then tested and certified to ensure its purity.

Cannabis, on the other hand, contains over 100 active cannabinoids aside from CBD - including THC.

Edi chooses to only use CBD isolate - avoiding any heavy metals, contaminants or restricted substances (like THC) in our products. This allows consumers to trust in our product quality and high safety standards.

Are there any health/wellbeing benefits from the ingredients in Spirited Euphoria?

In crafting Spirited Euphoria, we’ve set out to offer a great-tasting non-alcoholic spirit that gives people more options in their drinking repertoire; it is not intended as a health/wellbeing drink.

We can only infer benefits based on known and written about ingredients, which we’ve carefully selected to deliver the desired functional benefit (the ‘Edi’ effect) - not to offer specific health/wellbeing benefits.

Why hasn’t Spirited Euphoria affected me?

The functional effect from Edi’s Spirited Euphoria is different for each person. Everyone is different and different things affect people in different ways, so we cannot call out a specific feeling or intensity.

Does Spirited Euphoria have caffeine in it?

No, but our ‘nootranical’ blend does contain natural stimulants through our carefully selected choice of nootropics and adaptogens.

Is Spirited Euphoria cruelty free?

Yes; there is no animal testing associated with any aspect of Spirited Euphoria.

Does Spirited Euphoria contain THC?

No, our product is certified THC-free*.

*Each bottle contains no more than the legal limit of 1mg of THC.

Does the Hemp plant have THC? What is different between the Hemp and Cannabis plant?

The hemp plant (or cannabis sativa) is a specific strain of the cannabis plant that is grown for use in a wide variety of consumer products. Importantly, it’s not to be confused with other strains of the cannabis plant that contain very different phytochemical properties and produce the drugs marijuana and THC, which is restricted and regulated.

Hemp contains higher cannabidiol levels and lower THC levels, making it ideal for our distilled endorphin spirits. Cannabidiols are generally associated with promoting feelings of wellbeing and the general ‘feel good’ factor people associate with the Edi Effect.

2. Advice & Guidelines

How much Spirited Euphoria can I drink in one sitting?

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued strict guidelines on the consumption of CBD. It states the maximum daily intake should be restricted to 70mg.

We therefore recommend a maximum of 5-unit servings of 25mls and not exceeding 70mg of CBD per day (these guidelines are included on our bottles).

Is it OK to drive after drinking Spirited Euphoria?

While Spirited Euphoria is 100% alcohol free, we would still recommend catching an Uber home. This is because it creates a physical effect within the body (as alcohol does) that is different for everyone and so this is the safest approach.

Can I mix Spirited Euphoria with alcohol?

We don’t recommend you mix Spirited Euphoria with alcohol; we’ve designed it as a great-tasting non-alcoholic spirit offering its own functional benefits and so it’s best enjoyed as our recommended serve, or mixed with your favourite soft drink for an alcohol free experience.

What is Spirited Euphoria’s shelf life?

It is 12 months unopened and one month once opened, when stored in a cool, dry place.

Will I pass a drug test after drinking Spirited Euphoria?

Absolutely; Spirited Euphoria is certified to be THC free* and contains no illicit ingredients.

*Each bottle contains no more than the legal limit of 1mg of THC.

Will Spirited Euphoria negatively interact with any form of prescription medication?

We are not healthcare professionals and so recommend consulting your healthcare provider for advice.

Does Spirited Euphoria impair your abilities in terms of driving/caring for a child/going to work?

Since the Edi Effect is felt physical and affects everyone differently, we recommend only enjoying it outside of your everyday responsibilities and avoiding driving.
